Has Tea Gone Viral?

Tea has long been known as having many health benefits including antiviral properties. Ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu described tea as “The elixir of Life”. A recent study* further supports the many health benefits found in green, matcha and black teas. In this particular study, researchers explored differing foods and ingredients that may inactivate the strain of SARS-CoV-2 responsible for COVID-19. In their findings, certain sub-variants of Omicron were effectively inactivated, in turn, making them less contagious. Given that Covid-19 (among many other viruses) is spread through saliva that forms droplets and aerosols in the air when talking, sneezing, or coughing, this finding is particularly interesting as it in part relates to this type of transmission.

Big Picture – While this is one study, there are numerous studies supporting the substantiating health benefits of drinking tea as part of a healthful and robust nutrition plan. The catechins, polyphenols, vitamins and minerals in tea are well know to enhance immunity and strengthen the case for adding in a daily dose of tea!!
