Did you know that 60-80% of your immune system is in your Gastrointestinal (GI) tract? That’s right!!! As the main route of contact with the outside environment the GI tract plays a crucial role in optimizing your immune system. The GI tract is basically part of our digestive system, through which everything we eat or drink is “evaluated” then digested or eliminated as waste. It’s not that simple however. Everyday, our GI tract has to deal with the onslaught of such factors as food sensitivities (often found with gluten & dairy), “bad” bacteria (infections, viruses), stress (emotional, physical), medication side effects, environmental factors (mold, chemicals, mercury) and the list goes on…All of these factors can cause damage to the GI tract and in turn lead to a leaky gut, inflammation, absorption issues and compromised immunity.
